Tomintoul, a little village with a big heart, is the highest village in
the Highlands. Set in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, it is the
ideal holiday centre, whether you just want to chill out and relax or get
involved in something more energetic.
The village boasts a number of gift shops, PO/general store, galleries
restaurants and hotels. There is also a museum and Tourist Information
office (seasonal). It hosts its own Highland Games, with dancing, stalls and
piping bands, annually on the 3rd Saturday in July. Also on offer in the
village is an outdoor bowling green, tennis courts and horse riding
The surrounding scenery is stunning , with its mountains, forests and
meandering rivers, which cannot fail to take your breath away, with their
colours and form constantly changing in shifting light. It is a wonderful
place for walking, climbing, riding and fishing or for just simply sitting
and soaking up the splendour.
For those with an interest in history,
the castle trail offers intriguing
places to visit nearby, with Balmoral Castle only half an hours drive away.
On a less sober note, the village sits in the middle of
the whisky trail
with many local distilleries open for free tours, culminating with a
complimentary “wee dram”.
Wildlife enthusiasts will be in their element with the abundance of wildlife
and birds, including stag ruts in the Autumn. Walks and safaris are
available through the nearby Glenlivet Estate. Wildlife parks and the Osprey
village are short drives away. The coast with its long, sandy beaches and
seal colonies is about 50mins. Drive.
The University cities of Inverness & Aberdeen can be reached in about
90mins., through the most magnificent landscape. Here you will find
airports, rail links, shopping centres and theatres.
Whenever you visit, you’re sure to revel in the beauty and Scottish
hospitality as well as the much slower pace of life.
